J&J Cactus Co.
J&J Cactus and Succulent A Family Company officially began in 2024 as a fun experiment, inspired by a lifelong love of gardening passed down through generations in my family. Growing up around my grandfather's garden, I developed a passion for cacti, succulents, and native plants. Trading and selling these plants became the natural next step, allowing me to share my knowledge with others. It’s also been a great way to connect with the local community, meet new people, and foster a sense of neighborhood connection. Within a few months, we were excited to start stocking our plants at Goods on Orange in Long Beach.
We saw a unique opportunity to become a valuable part of the local plant community. Beyond just selling plants, we wanted to share our knowledge about plants. This led us to explore ways to educate with zines that provide tips on plant care. Even as a local resource for plant enthusiasts, our goal was to personally deepen our understanding as well. It’s also about finding a healthier balance — spending more time outdoors and less behind a computer screen.
We created a playful and approachable brand, drawing inspiration from the vibrant yet humble signage of mom-and-pop businesses. It’s a reflection of our desire to not take ourselves too seriously while fostering a sense of community. Our brand outreach is very casual, aiming to connect with other plant lovers by posting flyers on message boards in local coffee shops and bookstores. Best of all, this project allows me to work outside in the yard and share my passion with our son.
